Transcription of the video above:
In addition to building and planting, God also commanded the Israelites in verse 6 to “multiply,” or to bear children. They are to continue living out the Genesis 1 and 2 mandate to be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth with their descendants. They might be tempted to not do anything that would benefit the nation or the city, but God tells them to continue bear children.
Even in exile, we can be who God made us to be: counter-cultural. In other words, God calls the church to be counter-culture and gives us the resources we need in order to live in exile. We develop a Christian community whose home is the exile. We live here. But within this world, we are to help the other peoples of this culture recognize how they can be blessed. We are to live as a light to the Gentiles. We are to take Christ into the world whenever possible. One way for us to be fruitful is to bear godly offspring and raise them up in a godly manner so that they might impact the next generation and benefit the society. Are you committed to use your family as a visible witness of your faith in God or even mentoring young people in order that God might use them to impact the culture and people around you in a positive manner?
